The Painted Chair is a joint business venture started by Laura and Martin Berkerey in September of 2017. Martin is retired from software sales and I (Laura) am a pharmacist who loves creating in her free time. I found myself ready for something new in the summer of 2017 and had always dreamed of owning my own business. We spent the summer making plans to open The Painted Chair. A place where people could get inspired and learn about furniture painting and chalk paint through DIY classes. We opened our little shop in September 2017 at our original location of 3 North Jefferson Street, Farmington, MO. We loved meeting new people and we listened when they gave us workshop and project ideas! I bought a large vinyl cutter and started designing projects and Martin bought some saws and learned to create the projects that I designed.

Over the next year and a half, our business expanded to the point that we had outgrown our original location. We absolutely love downtown Farmington, and thankfully, we were able to find a larger space only 2 blocks away on Washington Street that met our needs for space and parking. In September 2019, we officially moved the business to 218 North Washington Street. We now offer classes on wood signs, furniture painting, canvas painting and ceramics and we have a successful ETSY store where people across the country can purchase our one-of-a-kind designs!! We create custom wood signs, paint furniture and sell Miss Lillian’s Chalk Paint. It’s been an amazing THREE years of building, growing and learning on the way. We have met so many wonderful people who believe in us and have supported us on our journey! We couldn’t have done it without our amazing customers!
